As the academic year came to a close, the Year 6 students embarked on an unforgettable graduation trip to Johor Baharu, Malaysia, from November 1st to 3rd, 2023. Packed with cultural immersion, nature exploration, and thrilling adventures, the trip aimed to provide students with a well-rounded experience that combined education and entertainment.
The journey kicked off with a visit to the Malay Cultural Village, where the students delved into the rich tapestry of Malaysian heritage. The day was filled with hands-on activities, allowing the students to not only witness but actively participate in traditional practices. From mastering the art of Teh Tarik to trying their hand at making roti canai, the students learned about the delicious dishes that represent Malay cuisine.
Rubber tapping, a practice deeply rooted in Malaysia’s history, was another highlight of the cultural excursion. The students learned about the intricate process of extracting latex from rubber trees, helping them understand and value the country’s economic foundations.
The cultural journey continued with demonstrations of traditional art forms, including wayang kulit (shadow puppetry) and batik printing. Engaging with these art forms not only entertained the students but also opened windows to Malaysia’s storytelling traditions and vibrant culture. The day concluded with the energetic movements of Malay dances!
The adventure took a magical turn as the students boarded a boat along the Johor River to witness the mesmerising spectacle of fireflies in Kota Tinggi. The students also had a visit to Legoland where they explored the Sea Life Aquarium. Here, they dived into the wonders of marine life, gaining knowledge about various sea creatures and ecosystems. The trip to Legoland also injected doses of adrenaline as students enjoyed theme park rides and splashed around in the water park, creating lasting memories of joy and excitement.
Danga Bay unfolded as a carnival of delights, offering a lively atmosphere and a variety of amusements. The students revelled in the festivities, trying out carnival games, enjoying delicious street food, and soaking in the vibrant ambience that Danga Bay had to offer. The journey continued to the southernmost tip of Mainland Asia, Tanjung Piai. Standing at this geographical landmark, the students marvelled at the significance of their location.
To cap off the trip, the students indulged in some retail therapy at Johor Premium Outlet (JPO). The outlet provided a unique shopping experience, allowing the students to browse through a variety of international and local brands.
As the Year 6 students returned from their graduation trip, they brought back not only souvenirs but a treasure trove of memories and knowledge. The journey to Johor Bahru successfully blended cultural exploration, natural wonders, and thrilling adventures, leaving an indelible mark on the student’s academic journey and ensuring that their graduation was celebrated in a truly unforgettable way.
