Celebrating 10 Years of Education – A Look Back at the Milestones of Campus Rangers
The 2021/2022 academic year marked the 10th year anniversary for Campus Rangers. To commemorate this wonderful occasion, let’s take a walk down memory lane to celebrate our academic and non-academic milestones and achievements.
Our Milestones
Equipping Students for Higher Education We place a strong emphasis on providing holistic education at Campus Rangers Learning Centre, which is one of our IGCSE Centres in KL. Our syllabus is vital to develop the student’s potential to its fullest and this is achieved by teaching the basics in a way that enhances the child’s capacity to learn – so much so that they are able to develop the necessary academic skills that will be needed in higher education.
In 2018, two of our IGCSE graduates, Vilson Ching Teck Sheng and Connie Teng Kang Ni were awarded the High Distinction Achievers for Foundation Year in Monash University (MUFY). Vilson has gone on to achieve outstanding results in his engineering program and has been included in the Dean’s Honour List in 2020, while Connie is an aspiring nutritionist who is currently finishing her studies at the University of Nottingham Malaysia.
Thanks to our dedicated teachers, we achieved one of the best Cambridge IGCSE results in 2018. Our 6th batch of Year 11 students attained 87% grades A*-C (Credits and above). Additionally, one-third of these students also went on to obtain scholarships from their selected colleges/universities!
Another alumna, Michelle Chua, who graduated with us in 2013, headed/directed the prestigious Festival of Diversity (FOD) Show for her finals at the University of Cardiff, UK. Michelle played a crucial role in the entire production as she was involved in multiple processes including script-writing, cast auditions, dance try-outs, recruitment of HODs, and weekly practices, until the final performance.
Excelling Beyond the Classroom We believe that our IGCSE students should be exposed to various non-academic activities in order to develop their skills outside of the classroom. Our IGCSE international school in KL offers a range of extra-curricular activities such as sports, cultural, and music classes to complement every student’s academic learning.
Over the years, we have seen great achievements from our students in both solo and team sporting events. Our team of Year 10 and 11 students secured the bronze medal for the Selangor National Junior Floorball Championship and Selangor Interschool Floorball Championship back in 2018. This led the team to represent the Selangor state in the National Floorball Championship.
Another sporting event that we reigned was the “More Than Champion” interschool sports competition where our representative students went against 10 other international schools. We succeeded in bringing home the gold medal for the basketball tournament, while we obtained the silver medal for the futsal tournament. As for the badminton tournament, we brought home the silver as well as the silver and bronze medals in the mixed doubles and singles categories respectively.
Aside from team sporting events, our students also shined in solo sporting events, namely in rhythmic gymnastics and ice skating.
Angel Wong, the first-ever recipient of our Campus Rangers’ National Sports Achievers Scholarship, is a national champion in rhythmic gymnastics. She has even represented our country in many gymnastic events at just 10 years old!
She has won 3 gold medals and 1 silver medal in her category for the Son Yeon Jae Master Class and Competition 2018 in South Korea and 3 gold medals and 1 silver medal in her category in the 16th Singapore Gymnastics Open in 2019. Despite having to go for online competitions during the pandemic, she has still managed to successfully clinch medals for the Ashita Cup in Tokyo, Japan, Spring Flowers competition in Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, ‘OCAQ’ Spring Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan and many more!
In addition to Angel Wong, our alumna Georgia Wong, who has been practising aesthetic gymnastics for more than a decade, won the gold medal in the 7th Total Gym International Gymnastics Tournament 2019 held in Cyberjaya. She also partook in the 2018 Asia & Pacific Cup International Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Tournament (Chengdu, China) and 2018 XIX IFAGG Aesthetic Group Gymnastics World Championships (IFAGG Trophy) in Budapest, Hungary where she obtained the silver medal and bronze medal respectively.
Another outstanding performer is Alyssa Tan Ka Men, who participated in the 2018 Skate Malaysia event and took home 5 gold medals in all 5 skating events! Moreover, she represented Malaysia in the 2017 Skate Bangkok competition and obtained 2 golds & 1 silver medal in 3 events. She is also a member of the International Skating Union and the Ice Skating Institute. Despite her hectic practice schedule, Alyssa is also a high achiever (top in her class) in her academics in Campus Rangers. Alyssa has then gone on to pursue her A-levels and is currently pursuing her studies in Law.
Apart from sporting events, our students have also excelled in other aspects as well. Our student, Megan To Yi An, gained recognition for her award-winning piano skills. She won the grand award in the Asia Pacific International Arts Festival in 2020 for the age 9 – 10 category and the gold award in the Bangkok International Piano Competition 2020 under the Pianist Class, age 9 – 10 category. Just last year, she was awarded the Malaysia Top 10 Outstanding Performance Pianist Award 2021 at the Asia Pacific International Arts Festival.
Just last year, our dedication toward excellence was evidenced by the awarding of the 2021 Malaysia Outstanding School Award at the Asia Pacific Arts Festival, for our efforts in Arts & Related activities.
Dedicated and Inspiring Educators One of our teachers at Campus Rangers International School, Briget D’ Cruz, transitioned to teaching in 2011 after being an accountant in a corporate firm for many years. She was featured in a 2020 article in the New Straits Times alongside her two sisters who are also educators in different schools. Albeit being in her 60s, her passion and dedication for teaching still continued throughout the lockdown period. She sees teaching as a continuous pursuit of betterment, despite it being a steep learning curve when it comes to online teaching. Bridget D’ Cruz is currently teaching business studies and accounting at Campus Rangers International School in KL.
Another inspiring educator is Eugene Nandakumar who is an artist and art educator at Campus Rangers International School. In 2021, he bagged the grand prize title for the Dreamscape Art Contest in the Accomplished Art category. He also represented Malaysia in the VAS International Artist Group (India) after being selected among 750 artists from 31 countries worldwide. On the other hand, he was also awarded the Top 30 Eminent Artists for this virtual event.
Other Honourable Achievements At Campus Rangers, we encourage our students to take part in a variety of academic competitions to bring out the best in them, helping them identify their strengths and capabilities. Through these activities, we also imbue lifelong values such as self-confidence, discipline, time management, and many more in our students, building the leaders of our future.
Noteworthy names to mention include Ilias Chow and Vanessa Ooi who competed with students from more than 20 different schools in the Annual Public Speaking Competition in 2019 that was organized by the Mahathir Academy. Ilias and Vanessa took home the 1st and 3rd prize respectively.
Besides that, Tayanaa Logenthiran was the first runner-up in category 6 (ages 15-18) of the 2020 International Critical & Creative Writing Competition. She competed against hundreds of students from around the world who shared their views, aspirations, and creativity through the theme – Peace and Prosperity for People and the Planet.
We want to thank the teachers, parents, students, and staff for continuously supporting Campus Rangers throughout the years. We are extremely grateful that we are able to continue to build a brighter future for your child.
