Rangers Kidz recently hosted a delightful three-day event, the Junior Chef June Holiday Programme, aimed at educating young learners in preparing simple and enjoyable dishes during their term break. This culinary journey was tailored for kindergarten students from June 7th to 9th.
Each day offered a unique culinary adventure, beginning with the enticing aroma of chocolate chip cookies, then the creation of delightful Yummy Jelly treats, and concluding with a study tour at Sakae Sushi.
Our young chefs had hands-on experience crafting delectable dishes which helped them develop valuable life skills. This delightful and educational experience left smiles on our budding chefs’ faces, nurturing their love for cooking and creativity.
Day 1 – Chocolate Chip Cookies
The holiday programme was thoughtfully organised into distinct sections, each designed to provide the students with a well-rounded educational experience. The day began with an engaging session led by the teacher, where students were introduced to essential kitchen utensils and measuring tools for baking cookies. A lively bingo game was played to make learning fun, helping students familiarize themselves with culinary vocabulary while practising their English language skills.
Students actively participated in measuring and preparing baking ingredients based on the day’s menu. This made math practical and showcased the importance of precise measurements in cooking. After a learning-filled morning, the teacher baked delicious chocolate cookies, allowing students to taste the fruits of their labour. This hands-on experience helped them understand how ingredients transform into delightful treats when baked. With newfound knowledge and inspiration, it was time for the students to put their culinary skills to the test. They eagerly baked their cookies, putting theory into practice.
Day 2 – Fruit Jelly
Much like the first day’s chocolate chip cookie-baking session. The students had the chance to make refreshing Fruit Jelly. Besides that, teachers take the opportunity to delve into science theories about liquids and solids, enhancing the students’ understanding of the subject. As the students decorate their jellies with various colourful fruits, teachers cleverly integrate vocabulary practice and colour differentiation exercises into the activity. This engages the learning experience and promotes language development and cognitive skills.
Day 3 – Sakae Sushi
During the Sakae Sushi study tour, students had the chance to learn hands-on sushi-making. They were guided through the process, from picking ingredients to crafting sushi rolls. The experience was complemented by an on-site tour of Sakae Sushi, where they got a behind-the-scenes look at how a renowned sushi chain operates, blending both practical skills with insights into the business.
To capture this memorable experience, the students and teachers huddled for a group photo marking the end of the 3-day holiday programme.
